On M.I.A.:

“I was really surprised. I didn’t know anything about it. I wasn’t happy about it. I understand it’s punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy, and positivity it seemed negative. It’s such a teenager…irrelevant thing to do…there was such a feeling of love and unity there what was the point? It was just out of place.”

On the Benny Benassi-produced single Girls Gone Wild:

“Oh god no! I don’t want to repeat myself [the gladiators]. I never do that! I am having auditions all next week. Then I’m going to shoot the video for ‘Girls Gone Wild’ after that, then I start rehearsals”

ON DEALING WITH POWER-HUNGRY INDUSTRY DUDES:
“When you come into the business as a woman, you have to pay a lot of mind games because the men tend to be very aggressive. It’s like chess—you have to protect your goods. Had I just started screwing the guys, it would’ve been over because they never would’ve taken me seriously.”

First of all, congratulation on your huge success with “Teach Me How To Dougie”! When you recorded it did you have this feeling “yeah! that one could be it” or were you totally surprised about its take off?

We were totally surprised.  We didn’t feel like “that one could be it” until we started to perform the song and everybody knew the words and the dance.

May 15, 2011 must be the group’s most tragic day. M-Bone was killed in a drive-by shooting. May he rest in peace. How did you deal with this loss?

It’s been really hard for us.  It hurts a lot, and we miss him everyday.  We just try to stay strong and move forward.  Bone would want us to.

Other than that I put everything in the show, and I actually went bankrupt after the first extension of The Monster Ball.”

On fans:
“I sent them hot chocolate yesterday, and macaroons, and then today I had press all day and I felt a bit bad because I wouldn’t have much of a chance to go down and say hello. But I did manage to go down and brought them some fresh cookies and flowers. <…> Little Monsters are a community. It’s kind of nice that wherever I go they create a little home for me.

On Madonna:
“I genuinely love her so much. I think she is so amazing. She could never be replicated and, yes, I’m Italian, I’m from New York, and not for nothing, it’s not my fault that I kind of look like her, right? So, look, if anything, it’s more annoying to me that people would insinuate that I don’t like to be compared to her… She’s wonderful and inspiring and liberating, and she’s certainly inspired my album, as did David Bowie, as did Prince, as did Michael Jackson, as did Grace Jones, and I would never take that away.”
